For the first time in my life (27 years) I feel sad and depressed after winning a big bet. Today we celebrate the 59th year of a foundation that made our country weak. Like fools we sit in front of our televisions watching the celebrations of ineffectiveness in broad daylight. Like fools we feel proud of a nation that has become a laughing stock across the world. We stand tall this day that to show the whole world that we are nation led by weak and fragile government that does not have the courage or desire to save and protect the lives of 1 billion people. We pride ourselves for the belief we have in Peace, Forgiveness and Tolerance. We have given this world the symbol of Non-Violence, the great man Mohandas Karamchandra Gandhi. But, I feel Mahatma Gandhi has done nothing but given Weakness as a legacy to this country. We have been doomed to always beg for our rights rather than have the courage to stand up and fight for it.
26th Jan 2009 marks 2 months of the biggest and most shameful day of our lives. As a nation we were reminded of how incapable we are, how fragile we are, how vulnerable we are. It’s been two months are we are still begging in front of the so called “International Community” to help us out. We are pleading again in front of Pakistan to give us 20 terrorist that live happily there. We are pleading to the new Bangladesh Government to ensure that they help us fight terrorism. Just a reminder to all of you, this Bangladesh is a county we fought for in 1971. And they had the audacity to kill 7 Indian army personnel and treat them like animals and all our government could do is to lodge a “Strong Protest”. We are sacred of new Maoist government in Nepal as they are closer to china than us. I feel, today as a county all we do is plead, plead and plead more. If only begging could have given people rights then I am sure we would have got whatever we desired for.
Let’s go back into history a little bit. People say “Quit India Movement” 1942 gave us our freedom. People say we fought for our freedom. People say Gandhi united this nation into one. But if you ask me British left India only because they realized that it was not profitable any more to continue ruling India. The had already taken away everything they wanted and there was nothing more left. They walked away from here leaving this county divided forever. Jinnah and Nehru laid the foundation of two new nations, one confused about their existence and one confused about its survival. We got a Prime Minister who was just a good politician, a good orator and weak decision maker. The seeds of today’s conflict were sowed in Kashmir by our very great Chacha Nehru.
Today after 61.5 years of independence we are more exposed and helpless than ever before. More than 45000 Indian lives have been lost to terrorism. We are a nation which has most casualties due to terrorism in this world. No other country has suffered so much for so long. But still we believe in Non-violence, forgiveness and tolerance. I say, we are just a nation of 1 billion people who are incapable of defending our own dignity. Non-violence is something that in today’s world has become a shameful cover for incompetence. Tolerance is nothing but a better word for our incapacity and Forgiveness is nothing but a way of running away from reality.
After two months of Mumbai massacre all our government could do was submit a dossier to Pakistan. Indian Politics and Indian Constitution has been the biggest bane for our nation. 26th January is not a day for us to celebrate, but a day for every citizen to mourn for the future of this country. The very constitution that we adopted on 26th January 1950 put the future of this country into hands of 5000 politicians who can do what they want to without being questioned, without being responsible and without being accountable.
Politics has gone to a level where only thing that matters is votes, even if it is at the cost of the nation and its citizens. Indian government cannot take any action against Pakistan as some may see it as an action against Islam and Muslims which can affect their Vote Bank. Government cannot take any action against Bangladesh as it will have adverse affect on Vote Banks in West Bengal (courtesy illegal bangladeshi migrants). You and I can’t do anything about the situation as the educated middle class of India only makes 10% of the voting population.
Only thing that bothers me the most is how soon we changed from a nation that had Chandra Gupta Murya, Ashoka, Akbar, Pritvi Raj Chuhan, Tipu Sultan, Shivaji Rao, to a nation that is on its knees pleading and begging for some help to breathe and survive.

US Election 2008 - India can learn
From 1964 to 2008 USA as a nation has come a long way and set an example for the whole world that it is people that drive democracy and not parties or politicians.....if you want to make a change...you can make a change.....The oldest democracy in the world has once again proved the point that.......a nations fate is not decided by few politicians and parties.....its driven by dreams hope and responsibility of the people........This is the time for all the Americans to feel proud citizen of a nation who after 234 years of independence and democracy.....values the very foundation of democracy "Of the people, By the people and For the people"......They have a leader who they know can be the catalyst for the change that America needs.........
After 61 years of independence and 15 leaders who have led the largest democracy in the world......its really hard for me to take one name Prime Minister (Head-of-State) who was a true visionary and a peoples leader....people may argue with me saying...Pandit Nehru was the true statesman and a visionary who laid the foundation for a better and developed India.....but I have my reservations and I think he was more of the leader who was enjoying the success just because people were so happy to be free.....he did not make any exceptionally great decision apart for few biggest blunders which India as a nation will keep paying for......
First and foremost is the Constitution of India that makes the members of parliament above every possible law in this country…..It gives them the power of defining the future of this country……our MPs are not accountable to any law of land because they are law makers as well and executors. No other successful democracy in the world gives the same power to the Legislators as it is given in India……This is probably the biggest roadblock that we will ever face and will have to live with till we find one more Mahatma or a Bhagat Singh that can garner the courage to fight for the nation
Second…..We do not know who is the leader we are voting for…because in India……we don’t choose our leader……we choose parties….and politicians……who by very definition are only looking for power apart from anything else……Look at the open mockery of democracy that these politicians make during elections…the first party that comes to mind is the LEFT parties in India….who is just a bunch of old horses still hungry for power……Prior to elections they talk about how bad the congress party of India is and what all they did….and post election they go on to make the government with the same party……If Pandit Nehru and BR Ambedkar were visionaries then they should have thought about this when they wrote the constitution of India………How can you allow post election mergers to form a government……this is nothing but promoting an unhealthy race for Power…….
Third and probably the most important thing that is missing in our democracy…”Absentee Ballot”……A citizen need to be present in his constituency on the very day of election if he needs to vote…..Most of the Indian educated Middle class and the educated youth of the country….are not residing in a place they belong….Given the size of the country….everybody cannot travel to the constituency on the election day and vote…..If our democracy was really for the people then the so-called visionary leaders should have made this possible……
Its hard to be a citizen of a country who has lost the capability of producing leaders….and is hanging on bunch of politicians and parties to lead their way….All the citizens of this great country need to sit back think and learn from USA what the true definition of a democracy is…and where we stand
If India needs to see a change we all need to find a way first to get the power of defining the future of our country in our very own hands…..I currently don’t see any light at the end of tunnel……The so called Great Constitution of this country has tied the fate of its people to a set of politicians who belong to parties who lost their ideologies ages back and today just fight for Power……God bless India….and hope we can find our way soon…..A wait for 180 years to find our very own OBAMA is too far away…..
